A lot of work is done to add CalDAV, CardDAV and WebDAV ACL support. If you understand how WebDAV and properties work, this would be a great place to start if you're more interested in building new features

RFC 3744 is rather complicated, and implementing it without making the codebase for end-users unnecessarily complicated has been hard.
